The materials for this piece come together to bring up ideas of authorship and authority. It is made of canvas; painted text which was written by Gertrude Stein and typed up by her lover Alice; plastic; and the crumpled up text of the book entitled 'Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas' which was written by Gertrude in Alice's voice.

Yvonne Rainer, a dancer and choreographer, created a functional based movement piece entitled 'Trio A' in 1966. This painting was created by projecting 'Trio A' onto a blank canvas wherein I followed Yvonne's movements with a large paint brush - creating a sort of 'functional based painting'. In the final installment of the piece the video created of me painting the piece is projected in the center of the canvas.
