Statement

I play with the tender awkwardness of physical reality. Each piece is pulled and assembled into being, embodying ideas of interiority and exteriority, time and spaciousness, irreverence and personhood. I’m curious about combining inanimate materials in ways that spark something sensual, emotional, and a little bit alive.

I feel a kinship with the bodily expressiveness, materiality and anti-form of the post-minimalists. My process is improvisational with a committed focus on play and discovery. I look for unexpected connections that the materials and my thoughts offer to me in the moment, embracing and celebrating the odd, the undefined, and the undefinable. I paint, draw, sew, cut, and assemble, building up surfaces and layers. I love recycling old work—past experiences materially frozen in time—by dismembering them, then taking those shards and shreds and re-membering them into something that comes to life in a surprising way.
